Yemen Cafe first opened its doors in 1986 and quickly attracted its community members as the first Yemeni-inspired cuisine in New York City. The proud co-owners; Yahya Alsubai and Muthana Nassir developed their love of food and community making it a successful business. Yemen Cafe was a safe haven in its early years for first-timers coming to the U.S from the Middle East especially Yemen which reminded them of home. Today, Yemen Cafe continues to impact the lives of its growing community.

Currently, the very birthplace of Yemen Cafe is facing an epidemic known as COVID-19 that is affecting the livelihood and spirit of, not just New Yorkers, but people everywhere. Here at Yemen Cafe, we care deeply for our fellow community members and want to give back by providing hospitals with free meals to show appreciation to all the first responders and medical professionals that keep our city’s bloodline pumping and to help brighten up the lives of those affected by COVID-19.

New York’s first responders have always been the life line for our city, in times of need where many others lose hope, they are the first to stand up and face any difficulty. Unfortunately, we are now being challenged with COVID-19, which has been tragically brought throughout the world. Luckily, we have our First Responders in the front lines again doing what they do best. We appreciate all the tremendous hard work and effort dealing with the rapid developing COVID-19 cases.

We at Yemen Cafe, have been trying to ease their efforts in the best way we are capable of. We will be providing lunch to as many hospitals as we can. So far, we began at the start of this week and will be able to continue contributing through Sunday, 4/9/2020. We are reaching out for help from other local businesses and community members to help us and join our cause together to support our First Responder.

Yemen Café has decided that we will continue to give back to our community by providing meals for hospitals & first responders in New York City. As of today, Yemen Café, began its contribution and will continue to do so for weeks. On behalf of the Yemen Café family, we would like to thank every first responder not only locally, but worldwide for their bravery and sacrifices during these trying times.
